Moggstar BYMX Moves South for Round Five.

After a very successful Round Four at Leuchars, the championship returns to the south of the country, to the hard pack track at Woodford, Run by the Northampton SMXC, the club is working hard to make this round one to remember, they have all the details up on the clubs website, with details and news about the track, how to get there etc. Visit their site at http://www.northamptonsmxc.co.uk.

Scott Elderfield will be out in the Open class to try and take over at the top, from championship leader Joe Gregory, after closing the gap at the top to just two points, after a great overall win at Leuchars. Tommy Fenwick is just behind the top two, with just eleven points difference between him and Elderfield, with Lewis King and Edward Allingham, also in the hunt, any of the three could close in on the top two, if they have a bad weekend.

Luke Hawkins will be hoping to extend his lead at the top of the Big Wheel 85cc class, after taking second overall behind Daniel Hutchinson at Leuchars, even though he had a bad day on day one.

Second place Ryan Houghton had some good results at the last round to keep his place behind Hawkins, but one man on a mission was the smooth and fast Daniel Hutchinson at Leuchars, and he will be out to upset the top two at Woodford. Paul Coates and Jamie McCanney are the next in line, and will show well also.

In the Small Wheel 85cc class, it looks like this will go down to the end as leader of the class Jordan Godwin takes a slender lead into Woodford, from James Dunn in second and Michael Eccles close behind. In fact there is only 28 points difference between the leader and third place. Callan Cooper and Corrie Southward could also upset the top three, as they are back on form after great results at Leuchars.

Ben Green in the Junior 65cc class will be hoping to continue his winning ways, coming to Woodford after a clean sweep at the Elite Championship at Mildenhall, Green will want to extend his lead, from Jason Meara, Robert Yates and back on form Ryan Snaith. This will be one class to watch as the top four battle for the championship. Anything can happen, so watch this space.

Round 4 BYMX Leuchars 21st/22nd June 2008

Report from Moggstar ACU BYMX round 4 Leuchars

In the deep rutted sand of the excellent Johnny Douglas Hamilton prepared track at Commerton Farm in Leuchars, Fife, Scotland, the fourth round of the Moggstar ACU BYMX youth series hosted by the Glenrothes Youth MCC proved to be a nerve jangling affair for some, but outright delight for the others. The Glenrothes team led by Bobby Blair must be congratulated on a very successful weekend, working none stop to make sure everything was right, and the hospitality second to none.

In the Junior 65cc class, series leader Ben Green had the pressure on him to retain his lead in the championship, as Ryan Snaith was back after injury, Robert Yates winner at Brampton, and Jason Meara were all after the wins.
Race one and Yates took the lead, with Green and Snaith hard on his heels, but lap three saw Yates make a mistake and let past, Green and Snaith, Snaith then got Green as he also made a mistake in the deep sand, and went on to win race one. Race Two and Green was having none of it, as he rattled a start to finish win, with Yates just behind him in second, Jay Lamb would have finished third, but on the last lap he binned it after another rider had fell in front of him, letting Snaith by to claim third, with young Irish rider Jason Meara keeping a watchful eye, taking his second fourth place on day one.

Jordan Godwin the series leader in the Small Wheel 85cc class showed he was out to extend his lead in the championship, Race one and he took the lead on lap one, with James Dunn and Ben Watson racing hard behind him, Dunn then came off, letting Watson through, Liam Garland on his tail went through, but on the next lap Michael Eccles passed him to finish third behind Godwin and Watson.
A Start to finish win, again for Godwin in race two, saw the rest of the field battling for the minor positions, Dunn and Watson were there, but both had get offs and let Garland through. Dunn fought back to take second, Garland claimed third after Watson again dropped it on the last lap.

Scotlands Matthew Fleming was out to upset Series leader Luke Hawkins in the Big Wheel 85cc class, on his home track Fleming blasted away in the lead in race one, with Jake Page, Bradley Pocock, and Paul Coates hard on his heels, Hawkins had made a terrible start, and was off the bike more than once throughout the race, finishing a lowly 13th. Fleming also had problems on the last lap while in a healthy lead when his chain came off, Page collected the win, with Daniel Hutchinson claiming second and Pocock third. Fleming eventually coming home 19th. Race two and this time it was Pocock who got out front, with Hawkins hard on his back wheel, Jamie McCanney was also there giving Hawkins a hard time, until a off for McCanney saw Nathan Watson fly past him. Pocock held Hawkins off to take the win, Hawkins claimed the second place, with Watson third.

With only one race in the Youth Open class on day one, this was the icing on the cake to finish the day off. Scotland’s Sean McDonald hit the front at the start, and held off Scott Elderfield and Joe Gregory until lap 5 when Elderfield passed him, and then Gregory got him on lap 8, Elderfield took the win with ease, Gregory claimed second and McDonald having to settle for third, with Tommy Fenwick just behind in fourth.

Day two of racing dawned to a well-watered track, after heavy overnight rain, and winds. But the club worked hard early in the morning to get the track right for another great days racing.

Up first were the Big wheel class, and Luke Hawkins showed his disappointing day one results hadn’t got to him has he rattled another two start to finish race wins.
Daniel Hutchinson claimed second and Ryan Houghton third in race three, while Matthew Fleming and Hutchinson claimed second and third in race four. Hutchinson claimed the overall, Hawkins settling for second, and Pocock taking third.

Race three in the Small wheel 85cc’s, saw Michael Eccles take the win, ahead of Ben Watson and Jordan Godwin. Race four and this time Ben Watson took over after lap one from Eccles to take the win, with Garland and Godwin just behind in second and third. Godwin took the overall and a healthy lead in the championship, from Watson in second and Eccles claimed the third place on the day.

The battles continued in the Junior 65 class, as Ryan Snaith took the lead in race three, Ben Green got him on lap 2 to take the lead, and the battle continued until lap 4 when Green came off and let Jason Meara take second place. Behind Snaith. Green eventually finishing third. Race four and Green took over from a fast starting Snaith, to take the win, but behind the battle for second was between, Meara, Robert Yates, Snaith, and Jay Lamb. Meara claimed second and Yates third. Green took the overall, with Snaith second and Meara third.

The Youth Open Class race two saw four riders going hammer and tongs at the front, as Will Worden took the lead on lap one, with David Games, Scott Elderfield and Lewis King all in contention, Worden stalled his bike on the finish straight, letting Games take the lead for one lap before going out, Elderfield took over at the front and was never under any treat to take the win. Tommy Fenwick battled his way through to take second, with King coming home third. Race three saw Elderfield take off at the front and he was never under any pressure to take the start to finish win. James Hutchinson battled his way through the pack to take the second place, with Will Worden claiming third. Elderfield took the overall and closed in on championship leader Joe Gregory, Gregory only leading by two points at the end of the day. Gregory claimed the second overall, with Hutchinson claiming third.

Moggstar ACU BYMX Championship Round Three Brampton Cumbria.

Glorious sunshine all weekend and some fantastic battles ensued as the Moggstar ACU BYMX series moved North to the East Cumbria’s clubs, British championship track at Brampton, for round three of the championship. Lots of hard work in the week running up to the event by all in the East Cumbria club, meant the track was in perfect condition, and the scene set for some fantastic battles in all classes.

The first race of the weekend saw the Big Wheel 85’s take to the track, and it was Championship leader Par Homes Honda man, Luke Hawkins who showed why he is leading the championship, by taking an impressive lead in front of Jake Page and Matthew Flemming, Page stayed with Hawkins for most of the race until a mishap on lap 6 saw him go out of the race, letting Flemming take over in second, Hawkins went on to win, with Flemming in second, Bradley Pocock claimed third, with Daniel Hutchinson coming home fourth.

Race two and Hawkins took off in the lead again leaving Page and Flemming to battle it out again, with Hutchinson in their wheel tracks, Page once again let Flemming into second, and was in a battle for third with Pocock and Hutchinson, for the rest of the race. Hawkins had a clear win, with Flemming second, and Page eventually claimed third, ahead of Paul Coates who came from behind after Pocock went out, and Hutchinson had a couple of offs.

In The Small Wheel 85 class, Jordan Godwin took race one from start to finish, leaving everyone else to battle for the positions, James Dunn claimed the second place, while Callan Cooper had to battle with Rickie Rodderick for third, Rodderick eventually getting past Cooper on lap 5 to take third. Race two saw the Rodderick take the lead on lap one, but Dunn was on his tail and took over in the lead on lap two, Cooper then got past to try and catch Dunn, but Godwin was on his tail, with young Ben Watson in tow. Dunn took the win, with Godwin second and Watson third, Cooper eventually claiming fourth.

The Junior 65 class saw some exciting battles in race one, with Robert Yates taking race one with a start to finish win, Ben Green was on his tail all through the race but could not get past, and had to settle for second, with championship leader Ryan Snaith getting a bad start, Jason Meara held third place, with Danny Lefear in fourth, until Snaith came back to take both of them on lap four and claim the third position. Race two and the battle was on again with Yates and Green. Green led from the start with Snaith on his tail and Yates closely behind. Snaith had a big get off, on lap two, and was taken to hospital, leaving Yates to battle on to take the second place behind Green who won, Meara came home third after battles with Jack Wilson.

With only one race on the cards for the Open class riders on day one, the race was worth waiting for, after the qualification earlier in the day showed that there was only one second between four riders. The race was on, and out in the lead went Swift Suzuki man Scott Elderfield, with Josh Spinks, Jack Rowland, Mel Pocock, and Joe Gregory chasing after him.  Elderfield held the lead while Pocock was getting past the rest to chase him down on lap two, and it stayed the same until lap 8 when Elderfield made a mistake, With Pocock out in front and the battles between Gregory and James Huthcinson carrying on, Hutchinson shot into second, while Elderfield was making a come back and eventually claimed the third place, with Gregory fourth.

Day two and the sun came out again, to greet the riders for a hard days racing.

Luke Hawkins continued his domination in the Big wheel 85’s by taking both the remaining races with ease, and taking the overall with all four, race wins. Matthew Flemming, eventually took the second place after some consistent riding, with Ryan Houghton taking the third overall place of the weekend.

Jordan Godwin and James Dunn battled fro the overall in races three and four for the Small Wheel 85’s, taking a race win a piece. Dunn eventually taking the overall with Godwin in second, and Ben Watson taking third after some good racing on day two.

In the Junior 65 class, Robert Yates claimed another two race wins to take the overall, with three wins and a second, Ben Green claimed second after three seconds and a win, taking him also to the top of the championship, Jay Lamb and Jason Meara claimed a third position each in the remaining races, but it was Meara who claimed the third overall on the weekend.

Races two and three in the Open class saw wins go to Scott Elderfield in race two, while in race three, Mel Pocock took the win, with Elderfield second. Pocock took the overall, while Elderfield took the second place. Edward Allingham raced hard on day two and claimed the third place overall.

DUNN STORMS TO BYMX VICTORY AT BRAMPTON

Relentless Youth Academy rider James Dunn stormed to success yet again at the weekend, as the thirteen year-old took the overall win at round three of the BYMX championship held at Brampton in Cumbria.

On Saturday, the Relentless backed schoolboy rider finished runner-up in the first race before going on to win the second race of the day on-board his Suzuki RM85. Keen to repeat his success on Sunday, James did just that by replicating his race results to take the overall win, moving him just ten points short of the championship lead after three rounds of the series.

Relentless Academy coach Paul Butler commented, "Another great result for the academy. Well done to James for riding such a mature race. His consistency over the course of the weekend paid off, and now his hopes of championship glory are one step close."

PAR Excellence For Luke Hawkins

Round two of this years Moggstar sponsored BYMX championship roared into life under glorious blue skies at the Motoland complex nr Mildenhall in Suffolk. Hosted by the Cambridge CJSC on the hottest weekend of the year so far the event produced a crop of scorching red hot performances from Jack Wilson, Jordan Godwin, Ben Howell, Luke Hawkins and Joe Gregory.  Performances that really caught the eye as they grabbed a sack full of championship points each and made the second round racing headline news. Most of the chatter pre event surrounded the fact that Scott Elderfield had signed on the dotted line for Swift Suzuki with a full blown contract to take over the Elliot Banks Browne machinery for the rest of the season both at home in Maxxis MX2, abroad in Europe for selected GP's and of course on the youth circuit. With the ink hardly dry on the contract it was time for Scott to go out and do the business,so how did he do? More of that later, read on.......

Junior 65s

Jack Wilson on the Hansen Racing KTM put in the performance of his young career so far in the Junior 65cc section claiming the first three race wins quite comprehensively as he reeled off the fastest lap in each race to out pace a super competitive field. Cumbria's Ben Green had his championship head well and truly on to claim the final race win to add to a brace of second place finishes. When it was all totalled up Ben finished in second place on the weekend and moved up to second in the championship standings just behind Ryan Snaith. Ryan scored heavily in all four races but saved the best until last with a runners up finish and the fastest lap in race four to stay on top of the championship pile by just six points from Ben

Elsewhere in the section Casey Connolly, Jason Meara, Ryan Johnson and Alfie Bowtell all had good points scoring weekends to keep the pressure right on at the top of the table.

Small Wheel 85cc

Jordan Godwin has been threatening all season to blow a massive hole right through the small wheel 85cc ranks. It all came together for him in Suffolk over the weekend as he produced a cracking top draw performance with a 1-2-1-2 scorecard putting him on the top step of the podium with a massive smile and taking the biggest piece of silverware home to Gwent with him. Not to be out done on race wins or speed over the four races fellow Welshman Ben Howell increased his lead in the championship with another two race wins and a runners up place finish.  KTM mounted Isle of Man flier Callan Cooper and Michael Eccles on the Team Green Kawasaki kept up their impressive starts to the season finishing in third and fourth place respectively on the weekend and are still right in there at the top of the championship pile. There were other noteworthy impressive single race performances from Liam Knight and fastest qualifier Liam Garland as they bagged an individual race third place finish each.

Big Wheel 85cc

If Jordan Godwins performance was impressive in the Small Wheels Luke Hawkins was absolute dynamite on the PAR Honda as he tore the Big Wheel 85cc field apart. Leading through every lap on the weekend recording the four fastest lap times in the process Luke plundered a maximum 180 points haul to jump five places up and take over at the head of the green plate championship standings. Ryan Houghton on the Redline KTM moves into second place in the chase for Big Wheel silverware courtesy of another four impressively smooth efficient point scoring outings the best of them being race three crossing the line in second place all be it 22 seconds behind the untouchable winner Hawkins. Third place overall on the weekend went to Robbie Muscat as he got his BYMX season off to a flying start with four superb rides against largely older opposition.Storming Brad Pocock delivered the goods in fourth place overall but it was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Dan Hutchinson on the Thor KTM suffering an electrical failure in race two after collecting a second place finish first time out. Also Jamie McCanney had a disappointing day two after ripping it up with second and third place finishes on day one. Both boys drop down the table a little after the heady heights of the opening round. A couple of injuries sustained by Scott Aldridge in the Big Wheels and Scott James in the Open section both resulted in hospital treatment, best wishes from all at BYMX for speedy recoveries.

Open Class

Scott Elderfield set about his new career aboard the Banks empire Swift Suzuki in the best possible way by posting the fastest lap time in his group of qualifying and then going on to record the first race win with relative ease from Joe Gregory on the Danger UK Honda in second place. James Hutchinson, Dan McCanney, David Games and Lewis king completed the top six finishers over the line. Edward Allingham stalled the machine going into turn one of race one but made no mistake second time out as he led every one of the six laps in a shortened second encounter to claim the race two win. Scott Elderfield struggled a little after a poor-ish start and had to settle for an eighth place finish as Joe Gregory again carded an impressive second place with flying Scotsman Sean MacDonald in third. In the final race of the weekend it looked odds on for another Scott Elderfield maximum as he lead all the way in superb style but machine failure late in the race could cost him dearly in lost championship points come September.Danger-man Gregory took full 45 point advantage to take the chequers first. Lithuanian express Vytautus Bucas stunned everyone with the fastest time in group two of qualifying and backed it up impressively with a cracking second place finish behind Joe. Drew Goudy came home in third place underlining the real depth of talent that can come to the fore in this years championship. At the end of the day though consistency, good fortune coupled with a bucket load of talent will win the day and it was a great weekend for Joe Gregory, finishing on the top step on the podium, a big pat on the back from Percy at Danger Uk and the joint lead together with young Scottish sensation Sean MacDonald on 182 points each in whats turning out to be a compulsive watch for the 2008 BYMX Open youth championship title.

The rain may have fallen, but it didn’t affect the spectacle of the first round with some very special racing over the weekend,

It was great to get the 2008 season underway, I’m sure no one can be too critical of the organising club for truncating the  final days racing on grounds of safety.

It won’t have escaped the notice of the riders but A few key people were missing... Mainly the usual Parc Ferme Staff... well you will be pleased to know that at Mildenhall Normal service will be resumed, although I’d like to thank everyone who had to sit there in the rain waiting for the signal  and also I’d like to thank the very nice man who lent me some gloves.......

On a technical front.... We were a little bit hampered by the weather as the noise control cannot be done whilst it’s raining, The general feedback I can give from the bikes we did sound test on the Thursday and Friday, was that the 2007  four stroke model bikes have got some work to do to get to the new 94Db limit and just because the two strokes get a higher limit don’t neglect to maintain your silencers as we had a small amount of the dinky bikes that blew a bit hard and there was a bit of frantic packing happening...

It’s on weekends like that when a great deal of thanks are due to everyone who mucked in to get through as much of the programme as was possible, so thanks goes out to all the people who were running around working double hard  in very muddy conditions helping with riders and things to keep some very muddy wheels turning....

Follow the 2008 results links page to find all of the weekends results and don't forget that mobile signal permitting they are uploaded to www.mylaps.com during the day. For those with WAP phones there is also a phone specific site at i.mylaps.com where results are also available during the day.

Ok... Nuff said...
